Te Ara a Maria Hikoi 17th August to 12th September 2021 in the Dunedin Diocese

Sun 15 August the feast of the Assumption of Mary is Aotearoa New Zealand’s National Patronal Feast. It is being marked in a special way this year as a re-dedication of our country to Mary Mother of God Assumed into Heaven. There will be a national Mass in Wellington on Sunday 15th August at St Mary of the Angels and an art work especially commissioned for this rededication will be blessed and begin a hikoi around the country. The art work will be transported by van and will arrive in Dunedin Diocese on 17th August and depart on 12th September when the hikoi will enter Christchurch Diocese.
The National Liturgy website will have several resources to support parishes and schools to prepare for this special feast day and hikoi. The hikoi is an exciting opportunity for us to celebrate our faith in a different way and we have the privilege to be the first Diocese in the country in the pilgrimage of this art work.

Yours in Christ,

Michael Dooley – Bishop of Dunedin.
